Making Friends: Elle Woods Legally Blonde

making friends,
Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde from A Daily Dose of Vitamin B

Making friends, being good friends, traits of a good friend.  Have you seen the movie “Legally Blonde?”  I would love to have Elle Woods as a friend.  Here’s why:

1.  Elle is a fantastic friend.  She helped her friend land the man of her dreams and was happy for a friend who was getting married.  Even though she had recently been dumped by “the love of her life.”

2.  Elle has Desire and Drive.  It may have been misplaced initially when she decided to go to Harvard for her ex-boyfriend, but she dumped him by the end of the movie.   Why?  She committed to something and learned along the way.  She learned what a loser the “love of her life” had been and moved on, pronto.

3.  Elle has Discipline.  She worked hard once she got into Harvard.  She was a misplaced Pink Princess when she first arrived and no one took her seriously.  Making friends?  Not easy. She made no excuses.  She adapted to the hard work while remaining true to herself.  Watching her on the stair master while studying!  That gives me a little kick in the butt.

4.  Elle has integrity.  When a girlfriend begged her to not tell the court her true alibi, the one that would get her off murder charges, Elle found another way.  When her fellow students and teacher gave her grief, she stuck to her guns.  That’s the kind of friend I want fighting for me!  Making friends with her would be a joy.

5.  Elle’s loyal.   To past friends and new ones.

6.  Elle always looks fantastic! And I know that if I looked a little too “rolled out of beddy,”  she would tell me.

7a  Elle speaks her mind.  When a study group was mean to her at the library, she stuck up for herself.  She said “You know, if you had come to my sorority I would have at least been nice to you.”  7b.  Elle’s pleasant.  She was pleasant but firm in her delivery.  This way of communicating is so much more powerful than a hissy fit or fighting.

8.  Elle’s funny and creative.  She made a video to send to the powers-that-be at Harvard extolling her virtues on why she should go there.  She took a chance, did something different and believed in it.  Elle is always looking for a way to stand out.  Maybe we shouldn’t perfume our resumes’ like she does, but it’s a good theory to put into practice, eh?

Yes, it’s a movie and there were plenty of people helping her with #6, but how much effort does it really take to spend some time on you?  I was at a restaurant last night and couldn’t believe the people that looked like they just rolled out of bed.  It takes a moment to find matching clothes and comb your hair.  Making and keeping friends isn’t easy, but those that stick by you like Elle should be loved forever.

I hereby dub Elle Woods “Luscious Pink Bitch,” of Bitch Lifestyle.

Unknown Worlds of Discovery

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), Murnau Street with Women, 1908. Oil on cardboard, 71 x 97 cm. Private collection, Courtesy Neue Galerie New York.

“Lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and … stop thinking!  Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to “walk about” into a hitherto unknown world.  If the answer is yes, what more do you want?” Kandinsky, 1910

Had to share this with you.  Especially since we’ve been on the subject of opening up to new experiences.  So my answer to the question?  Let’s Bitch it Up and:

1. Be thankful for opening ourselves up more to the beauty of life surrounding us.  The new passions, the fears, blowing a sassy “bring it on kiss” to challenges we encounter.  Opening up to long ago buried dreams, wishes and goals.  Embracing and experiencing new worlds.  The new world we can create ourselves.  Our world.  Your world.  The one and only of its kind!

2.  What more could we want?  Even more delicious discovery, life and love!

3.  In the spirit of wanting more here are some ideas:  listen to a music artist that you’ve never listened to before, taste a new cuisine.  It was Cuban last week for me.  Go deep sea fishing, whale watching, take a dance, pottery, cooking, weight lifting class.  Drive for an hour on the highway then take an exit and explore.  Go to a museum, botanical garden, tapas eatery.  Spend an entire day without a cell phone or computer.  Savor whatever it is you decide to do.

4.  Imagine yourself in this painting.  Create your own work of art.  Women are the ultimate creators because we give birth.  So enjoy this creation and the beauty you create every moment of every day.

I’m wishing and longing for all of this and oh so much more for you!  Love, Goddess

Opening Up Rocks!

Last weeks’ opening up experiment was a resounding success!  Yes!  I’m so happy with how it turned out.   Are you ready to open up hot stuff?   You can do it.  All it takes is a little faith and being open to new adventures.  Here are some of the juicy details from an extrordinary week away with my girlfriends.

1.  I broke a board a la karate style with my hand.  On the very first try— hee ya!

2.  I got free drinks all weekend.   Even an open bar for two hours at a hot dance club.

3.  I got lots of free food—so yummy!

4.  I was dancing on a bar with my girlfriends and a hot sexy guy jumped up to dance in front of me.  He started taking off his shirt.  I’m thinking…okay, I’m open to enjoying this.  I stroked his tanned, muscular back and spanked his butt.  (Yes…the Sassy Bitch was out!)  Later he told me he and his friends were skipping a bachelor party to hang with us.  Now that is a compliment, huh ladies?

5.  Remember my whole “Letting Go” experiment?  http://bitchlifestyle.com/2009/11/letting-go-success-part-one/ I got a lovely reminder from a gorgeous, sexy young man.  We were swimming in the most beautiful, warm blue water.  He held me in his arms and said…”Don’t worry, I won’t let you go.”  I felt so safe in that rough surf in his arms.  A reminder to me that my trusting and opening up is working.

6.  There were some other ways I opened up to new experiences, but we’ll have to save those for another time.  (wink!)

I’m so grateful for my “Opening Up” experiment.  How about you?  Have you been opening yourself up to new experiences and new people?  Loving the amazing people in your life right now?  I would love to hear about your experiences about opening up.

With love and a huge eye-opening kiss,  Goddess

Opening Up and Letting Go

This week I decided to give myself a little theme.  Something fun to focus on.  You know the Worry Party I talk about?  http://bitchlifestyle.com/2009/09/turn-worry-into-fun/ This can be applied to anything in life.   I’m calling the theme for this week “Opening up.”  Opening up to new experiences, fears, tastes, activities and the biggest of them all…love.

I’m talking about loving and opening up to everyone I meet.  Sending a sunny smile out there, a laugh, a tickle, a warm embrace.  Opening up to more love from more people.  New friends, old friends and family.  Love is an act and to get more you have to put it out there.   And trust that it’s going to come back to you.  Smile at the hiccups on the path of loving.   What fun are hiccups?  LOL…actually, they can be very funny.  But it’s a relief to say good bye to them too.  Whoa…the hiccup metaphor is simply this:  Smile at curve balls thrown your way, take a deep breath and then get back to focusing on opening up to fun and love.  There’s so much wonder that surrounds us everyday.  Don’t let the hiccups distract you.  Couldn’t resist one more.

Your assignment is to throw all the love you have out to the world.  See what comes back.  Want to Bitch it Up even more?  Tell one of your deepest darkest most wonderful thoughts or desires to someone you love.  Just because.  Can’t wait to hear from you!

Love, Goddess
