The Turning Point

Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine from The Internet Movie Database http://www.imdb.com/

Ready for a treat?  Rent the movie “The Turning Point.”  A fantastic movie for your Drama Queen.  She’ll love it.  Not only will it entertain you – you might just learn something along the way.  Shirley MacLaine and Anne Bancroft are at the top of the acting game as two former ballerina rivals whose decisions take them down completely different paths.  Competition and jealousy ooze beneath the surface of a deep friendship.  Decisions, transitions, and forks in life’s road are faced by all the film’s characters.  All set against the dramatic backdrop of a ballet company.  A gorgeous metaphor for life, really.

You know how I’m always talking about learning how to speak in a blunt but not angry way?  Characters speak this way to each other in the movie.  They have to say painful things to each other.  But these are things that must be said.  And the lesson is, if you say it then the person can move on.  By not speaking the truth, and just letting things slide over and over it creates more pain and in some cases (like the ballerina who won’t quit) unnecessary embarrassment.  To be blunt:  If you care, say it.

I love Martha Scott as the blunt, money-minded owner of the ballet company.  She has run the Ballet company for years and almost went bankrupt 5 times.  She knows what the company needs to succeed.  She is passionate about her work and will say and do what’s necessary.  This is courage.  Especially when you have numerous people depending on you and your leadership for a paycheck.  A strong person has to say truth to everyone in order to succeed in any business or career.

Want more?  How about a cat fight to end all cat fights?  And Mikhail Baryshnikov at the top of his dancing career.  And in lots of scenes, shirtless.  Purr…

These lines brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful:

Didi:  Are you trying to get rid of me?

Wayne:  No.  I’m trying to hold on to you.

A man who is willing to give his wife up for a summer in New York City and all the memories it includes.  Because he knows that by doing that, he’s going to keep her happy.  A wonderful example of loving someone that brings tears to my eyes.  Of letting someone be them and giving them the freedom to do it.  The best kind of love.  The ultimate in trust.

So enjoy.  With lots of popcorn and butter!  Love, Goddess

Sexiest Couple From Jerry McGuire

Photo of Rod and Marcy from Cinema Fanatics http://cinema-fanatic.com/2011/04/04/oscar-vault-monday-jerry-maguire-1996-dir-cameron-crowe/

The sexiest couple from Jerry McGuire, in my humble opinion, was not Tom and Renee.

I love Rod and Marcy in this film.  They’re warm, loving, sexy, playful and sassy with each other.  They are a total team regarding their obstacles.  They are almost broke, have a house that’s falling apart and a family to take care of.  The key to their survival depends on Rod’s tightrope football career and his next contract.

Marcy speaks her mind, is vivacious and has huge amounts of joie de vivre.  She sticks up for her husband and watches out for him.  She fights for her man.  She even tells his brother off at the end of the movie.  Watch and learn from her.  She’s straightforward, feminine and blunt:  a strong woman.

At first glance, Rod seems to be the stereotypical spoiled, self-centered, and greedy jerky jock, but he’s actually fiercely loyal, upstanding, honest, and deeply devoted to his family.  This fierce loyalty is good news for Jerry.

I see so many couples today-married and unmarried that don’t appreciate what they have together.  Egos are clashing.  They aren’t a team, they’re working separately to get what they want.  Rod and Marcy are united in what they want for their family.  It’s so refreshing and fun to watch.  Working on obstacles together.  Here’s the problem and here’s how we’re going to solve it.  So much sexier and productive than being enmeshed in personal egos.   Here’s to each of us having this kind of relationship.  Appreciating what we have and fighting for those we love.  Love, Goddess

What Is The One Flaw In a Woman?

This one little flaw keeps us from fighting for ourselves and unleashes the Brat in us.  Don’t forget this flaw—it keeps you from greatness.

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men…..

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in.

They stand up to injustice.

They don’t take “no” for an answer

when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

yet they are strong when they

think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what

makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

and everything to give.

However, if there is one flaw in women,

It is they forget their worth.

Whoa, huh?  Don’t ever forget your worth, honey.  Ever.  If this is making you pissy, perfect!  Get that hot butt of yours over to the Drama Queen section and kick her you know what to the curb.  Love and a huge hug…Goddess

Lucille Ball-Queen Bitch of Comedy!

The fabulous Lucille Ball from Love Those Classic Movies http://lovethoseclassicmovies.blogspot.com/2012/05/in-pictures-lucille-ball.html

Lucille Ball-Queen Bitch of Comedy and one of my favorite all time inspirations.  She was a shy on the outside girl who on the inside “wanted to make some noise.”  And did she ever.

1.  Regarding “I Love Lucy,”  Lucy and her husband knew exactly what they wanted and went for it, together.  Lucy was offered the TV show by CBS.  She agreed with the following conditions: That Desi would play her husband, they would film the show and took a pay cut to do so, and lastly that their movie studio, Desilu would retain all rights to the series.   Her brilliant husband, Desi Arnaz, pioneered the 3 camera technique now standard on TV sitcoms.

2.  She was the first woman to own her own movie studio.

3.  TV Guide picked her as The Greatest Star of All Time.

4.  Early in her modeling career she was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis and spent 2 years re-learning how to walk.

5.  When she was nicknamed “Queen of Comedy,” she was steadfast in her belief that her idol and girlfriend, Carole Lombard deserved the honor.  I would have loved to have had the pleasure of having a night out with these two!

6.  Tutored in comedy by Buster Keaton-one of my favorites of all time!  I’m a bit jealous about this fact.  🙂

7.  Desi Arnaz on her extraordinary beauty:  “That’s a hunk o’ woman.”

8.  Girlfriend starred in over 72 films in her lifetime.  And that’s just her film career.  We aren’t talking about her modeling career, stage career, television career and running a production studio!

Some of my favorite quotes from Luscious Lucy:

I’m happy that I have brought laughter because I have been shown by many the value of it in so many lives, in so many ways.

I’m not funny. What I am is brave.

Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall madly in love with a gorgeous redhead.

A man who correctly guesses a woman’s age may be smart, but he’s not very bright.

In life, all good things come hard, but wisdom is the hardest to come by.

[About her meeting Desi Arnaz for the first time]: It wasn’t love at first sight. It took a full five minutes.

Sassy, successful, brilliant and beautiful.  Lucille Ball is a true Bitch that I’ve always loved and looked up to.  And she still makes people laugh to this day.  I showed my two little nieces clips of I Love Lucy on YouTube.  They loved her and laughed over her antics.  They started performing I Love Lucy shows in their home.  How cute.  Thank you so much for the laughter and inspiration you’ve brought me Lucy.  We will always love you!  Love, Goddess
