Sign you’re a Sassy Bitch #5:   You listen to a man’s words with healthy skepticism.  Actions turn you on.

Men will say just about anything to get what they want from you.  They always want something.  And that, Sassy Bitch…plays right into our hot little hands.  Except we do it backwards.  We let them have what they want…sex or whatever and then wonder why they don’t call, text or set up dates.  They’ve gotten what they want and they have moved on.  When you MAKE a man produce FIRST by backing up his words with action, he has to work harder to get what he wants.  If what he wants is us, we get the pleasure of sitting back and letting him produce.   He has to work harder to get what he wants, which feeds his ego.  By taking his words with a grain of salt, we get spared the pain.  Trusting his action backed words makes us feel safe and treasured.  Again, when we are happy and he is able to contribute to our happiness, his ego is fed.

Ladies…do you think men are “hairy women?”  Do you think they think the same as you and your girlfriends?  Well, they don’t.  At all.  So in honor of Sassy Bitch Rule #5,  let’s review some of the ways we need to understand men better.

Focus Bitch.

This is for the beauties who read this web site and are worried about a guy they like or are dating.  It’s for the beauties that are rockin’ their guys and need a gentle reminder.  We all do sometimes.  We’re emotional creatures and sometimes our emotions, our Drama Queens crave attention.  Sometimes we misplace that attention.  We put pressure on our guys to give us that attention when we could just as easily put it on ourselves and allow him to give freely.  The key is the word “pressure.”  Maybe it’s the oxytocin:  http://bitchlifestyle.com/2011/04/the-cuddle-hormone-2/ maybe we haven’t quite grown into our Sassy Bitch and our confidence isn’t there.  Maybe we don’t get the fact that we are truly beautiful.  Then our Drama Queens take over and “attach” ourselves to a guy because we want attention from him.  HIM.  We like him so much!!!!  We must have him!!!!  When you find yourself saying, writing, worrying about how to get him to chase you, love you, want you, it’s time to make a choice.  Worry?  Or…

FOCUS.

Focus on what you can control.  Cuz’ it’s not him.  What you can focus on is YOU and your choices.

You can choose to worry about why he hasn’t answered a text and send another one.  Then you can worry about why he hasn’t answered the original text and the 2nd text.  Then you can get a bit pissed off and send a 3rd text.  Now you can worry and fret about why he hasn’t answered 3 texts you’ve sent him.  And send another…and another.

Or.

You can focus on what truly matters to your growth as a person, those you care about and your career and life goals.  Or you can whine about the fact that the choice I just gave you doesn’t “get him to chase you.”  That is so very cute of your Drama Queen, isn’t it?  That’s not why your reading this.  You’re reading this so you can claim your Sassy Bitch.  So give your Drama Queen the attention she wants by focusing attention on you:

1. Make a list of everything you want to accomplish in life.  The fun, the crazy the ones that will fulfill you.
2. Volunteer.  If your Drama Queen really needs a kick in the butt?  Volunteer at a hospital.  A hospital is full of sick and dying people.  That should put worrying about a text in perspective.
3. For Valentines Day-what I like to call the “Day of Love” make a list of those that truly love you.  Your Dad, Brother, Mom, Sister, Nieces, Nephews, your BFF.  Make heart felt Valentines for them.
4. Keep your calendar full. Your goal being a calendar full of things that light you up and make you feel good.
5. Appreciating your beauty every day.  Be grateful for your gorgeous skin, curvy thighs, beaming smile, sparkling eyes.  Blow yourself a kiss when you walk by a mirror.
6. Get spiritual.  Meditate, relax, go for a long walk, kick-box.
7. Eat yummy healthy foods.
8. Giving out love sends it back to you.  Greet those you love with a warm hug always.  When you depart, give them a warm hug again.
9. When you start worrying, start listing all the things you’re grateful for.  Use this as a tool when you start worrying again.

There’s something that men do that can be SO annoying to us women.  It’s when we, as women, are talking about one of our dearest passions, and a man starts giving us crap and poking fun at us about it.  So what’s that all about, Bitch?

Attention.

They like you.  They want attention from you.  Unfortunately, they’re going about it the wrong way.  A lot of us women don’t really dig that.   It can get our panties in a bunch.  Here we are, all excited about our passion, and he’s dissing us, teasing us and we just want to smack him.   So what do we do about this, Sassy Bitches?

Play our cute, curvaceous butts off about it!  We take our studies from ”You’ve Been Sassed,” http://bitchlifestyle.com/2012/01/youve-been-sassed/  and Bitch it up.     We not only call them on their crap and use their own words to do it, we do it all sassy and playful.  Why?  Because you know you can play his own “game” (more on that in a bit) *** and relish the fun challenge he’s presenting you with.  Because remember, men love a challenge.  Can he handle the challenge of hot little you?  (God…he hopes so!)  An example from my life today:

My friend J calls me.  We have things to discuss regarding a project we’re working on together.  All goes well and we end the phone conversation.  We hang up.  He IMMEDIATELY calls again.  I pick up.  Here is part of our conversation:

J:  Sharon, I was just calling you to tell you “Go Giants!”

Me:  Now you know the only reason you’re telling me that is to push my buttons.  Football is one of my passions.  (He had started the day before on me.  This time using the Ravens.  And I knew he was calling me back to give me crap about my deep passion for Patriots football)

J:  Don’t be so sensitive, Sharon.  It’s just an opinion I have.  Football isn’t a really important thing.

Me:  Oh no.  (really playfully)  Like for me I don’t understand why people meditate.  I think it’s for people with way too much time on their hands.  Just my opinion.

J got irritated.  Score a big one for the Sassy Bitch.  A few more words and then the conversation changed.  Why?  J is really into meditation.  I like it too.  The point is, HE has this passion for meditation and I used that to call him on his crap.  Used his own words against him.  So playfully fun, too.  Bitch won because he DROPPED it.

So why wasn’t I mad?  No reason to be.  This is how guys talk to each other.  You ever notice how much crap they give each other?  They respect the person who gives it back to them and don’t lie down and take it!   So it actually is a playful game *** they are “playing” with you and you are just  ”playing” back.  You just can’t let it piss you off (kick box it out!)  and play back.  That is the sort of play they understand.  Got it?

Now get in there and play back with those scoundrels who are just craving your attention.  Sassy wink!   Love, Goddess

Saturday night I’m enjoying a night out with friends in the South End of Boston.  The restaurant had amazing food and the owner was so charming and wonderful to us.  We were talking about being “slightly outrageous.”  All in fun, nothing dangerous or crazy.  One of my friends and I started to feed each other.  A little while later the owner, the charming Gary asked us how everything was, and the following occurred:

“I have a request,”  I said with a slightly mischievous smile.

“Oh, no…I’m a bit scared.”  He said, smiling back.

“I would like a kiss,” I said.

With flirty eye contact, I smiled a sly smile.  I presented him with my hand.  Our eyes never left each other.  And then he granted my request so perfectly.  It was a perfect moment.  You know what’s really cool about my kiss?  I just went for it and asked.  Then I thought, how many times a day do we hold back from asking what we want?  Or have we gotten into the habit of not asking because we don’t think we’re going to get it?  Or worse, we’re AFRAID we’re going to get it.

Well, Bitches, it’s time to start asking.  Today at Bitch University you’re assignment is to:  Give it a try and ask a man to do something for you.  Start with your Dad, Uncle, Grandparent, Brother.  Move on to male acquaintances.  Then servicemen.  Then that hot piece of *** across the room.  And remember that old saying, “It never hurts to ask.”

Dating Concept #1:  Signs that a man wants YOU to chase HIM.  This is “Guy A.”   I love “Guy A” because he’s a text book example for this concept.  He gives me his number, then tells me to call him.   Do I?  Please.  I agree to IM with him and give him my AIM name.  Do I IM him first?  Please.  Finally he IMs me and here is our conversation.  What I am thinking during the conversation is in italics.

Guy A:  What’s good?  Wow…that’s a hot greeting.   No hi, how are you?  FYI:  He’s putting pressure on me to tell him something good to impress him.  Trust me, nothing good is going on with him.  This is the type of guy who puts it all on the woman to please him.

Me:  Blueberry pie and red wine.  This is a set up statement.  So I can call him on his shit.

Him:  Ya got some 4 me?  All about you, isn’t it honey? 

Me:  You’ve got to earn that kind of love from me, Hotstuff.

Him:  What do I do?

Me:  You don’t know how to earn that kind of love from a woman? Don’t waste my time.  If you don’t know, I’m not telling you.

Him:  Where r u?  Notice how the subject is changed.  I called him on his “shit” and he got it.

Me:  Work.

Him:  What do you do for work?

Me:  I run a web site for women that are kick ass.

Silence.

He didn’t respond quick enough so I logged off.  I was talking with my best friend and had other things to do.  Plus, the whole question grilling thing was not fun for me.  So…how Bitchy was that on a scale of 1-10?  Fairly high.  LOL!  This guy is interested, but I’m not taking him seriously because he has done nothing to make me do so.  This man wants me to chase him.   This is what a “guy” does.  A “MAN” backs up his words with actions.  He does what he says he’s going to do.  He greets you warmly—even in an instant message.

Now that I’ve told you all this, don’t get mad.  Don’t hate this “guy.”  He’s just clueless on how to treat a woman.  No one has properly told him.  Or kicked him in the ass when he’s not being a gentleman.  Isn’t that a bit sad?  This is why I want you to not take the whole dating thing so seriously.  You’re going to meet men who are clueless.  You’re going to meet amazing ones too.  This is a learning experience.   Check your “Brat” at the door and let your “Bitch in the room.”  http://bitchlifestyle.com/2010/01/who-controls-you-your-bitch-or-your-brat/

Lesson #2: This is how men learn to pin women against each other. Solution: Let’s stop pouring our energy into competing with women. Especially women we don’t even know. This only enables him to use other women to get an emotional reaction out of us.  He stays in control this way.  Mmmmm…not here at Bitch Lifestyle.

Example C:  Another article is entitled: “How many vices you can get away with?” He knows these are bad for you but wants to play with the danger.

Lesson # 3:  A man wants to know what his boundaries are. That’s why it’s so important that a woman respects herself and sets boundaries with him regarding her. Solution: Make sure he knows that there are consequences to his actions if he disrespects and doesn’t appreciate you. This must be done up front by a woman. He’s going to test you either way.  With boundaries set, he will learn walking all over you gets him nowhere.

Example D:  There were 2 articles about food.  And very simple food.  The “best pizza on earth” and a “sandwich they must have.”

Lesson #4:  Don’t try too hard by cooking him fancy meals.  Solution:  Perhaps the first time you cook him a meal you make it much much simpler.  Start out with potato chips.  (Lays are good) As time passes and he shows with his actions how much he likes you, add the pizza and sandwich options.  Can you imagine how special he’s going to feel when you finally get around to cooking him a T Bone steak?  You both win!

As women we have been taught to “go after what we want.”  That’s perfect for business, but in our love lives, it’s a bit backward.  Men have always been the hunters.  They love difficult things.  Like football, extreme sports and climbing the corporate ladder.  (yes…that one is fun for us, too!)  Men LOVE to produce then brag about it.  Like in business, hunting or fishing.  You ever notice how they talk about these accomplishments?  It’s always the struggle (in dramatic detail) about the giant fish he caught. (even if it’s a Minnow)  Or the meanest, toughest smartest animal he ever “brought down.”  Then they display the animal on the wall so he can talk about it whenever someone comes in the room.  Men are all about accomplishment and production, ladies!  If he says this to you, he wants you to see what a great producer he is.  (for life, maybe?) And he wants you to be proud of him.  Awww….  So how do we “go after what we want if it’s him?”  We let him chase us.

He wants the thrill of the hunt and chase with you, too.  The part that drives a lot of us women absolutely nuts:  Will he call?   Why does he need space etc.  Is a thrill for him.  Did you know that when guys are sitting around with their buddies saying things like this:  “I can’t do that my wife would kill me.”  He is bragging about you to them?  He and his buddies all want the woman they can never quite figure out or control.  Strong men want a strong woman who won’t take any of their BS and will call them on it.  He knows he’ll never have you mounted on his wall and likes it that way. 

So…how do we let him chase us?

1.  You love yourself with abandon.  No excuses.  If he can’t love you the way you are don’t bother with him.  If he says he likes blondes and you’re a brunette?  Look at your watch and say nicely, “Thanks for the drink.  I have an early morning and it’s time to go home.”  Notice his actions.  Action is key with him…the producer.  Men do a lot of things on purpose to get an emotional reaction from us. ( yes…an upcoming blog on that one! )  When he doesn’t get an emotional reaction from you, you just put the kibosh on that little game of his.  Remember one of my favorite “bitches”  Dolly Parton?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_Parton  She’s “This is who I am, take it or leave it.” Period.  I’ve quoted this before in my blogs and here it is again.  When asked the key to her successful marriage she said  ”When my husband gets a little complacent, I pack a bag and stay gone!”  Love it!

2.  We won’t compete with other women over a man.  If he’s trying to make you jealous with other women he is not respecting you.   And we are going to blame her?  Blame the source.  If he tells you about women that are “coming on to him” or an “ex-girlfriend” he is getting together with?  He is doing it to get a reaction from you and it’s disrespectful.  Tell him something along the lines of this:  “I really want you to be happy.  Let me know what you decide.”  Then no contact.  Let him “explore all those possibilities” if there are any.  One of two things will happen.  If he’s a jerk, and leaves you-you win because who needs that?  If he’s just trying to get the reaction, get ready for flowers.  You gave him the kick in the butt he needed.

3.  You let him “chase you” by letting him call, letting him make the plans. (and yes…you let him know what you would like to do, too!) You continue to lead your amazing life, career, pursing and researching your dreams, hobbies and desires because your life is awesome and fun without him.  Even when you’re an established couple.  Your life is important to you.  It’s something you’ve been working at, excelling at and enjoy.  It’s what makes you wonderful you!  Don’t give it up.  (After you’re an established couple, yes you can start calling him)

4.  You don’t tell him every detail of your life, so he wonders what you’re up to.  If you’re exhausted and all you can think of doing is relaxing in a bath tub?  Do it.  If he calls, he can leave a message.  You don’t have to tell him what you are doing every minute of every day.  And don’t expect him to account for his every minute.  Maintain a little mystery by keeping focused on you and your needs.  Keep moving to the rhythm that makes you feel good.

5.  While you’re getting to know each other, try to keep your dates shorter and don’t spend long hours talking about feelings with him.  (call a girlfriend) Don’t ask him “Where he thinks things are headed.”  Never bring up marriage, kids, etc.  Let him bring it up.  When he DOES bring them up, give a vague but clear answer.  “Marriage?  I haven’t really thought too much about it.  If I do get married it will have to be someone wonderful.”  Perfect.  First he’ll probably be shocked that HE was the one bringing up marriage.  Second, if he has brought it up, he’s been thinking about it and wants to see your reaction.  When you aren’t really “thinking” about it and want someone “wonderful” you just told the hunter what he has to do catch his “intended prey.”  Let the producer produce!

And there are so many more things you can do to let him chase you.  We will discuss, I promise!  This is key:  Remember that you are a “wonderful catch.”  Any man would be lucky to get you!  Make him prove that he is your hero.  Men love being heroes.  Let him prove worthy of fabulous you!  And when he does?  Appreciate the hell out of him!  Love, Goddess

It’s time to bust wide open the image of “The Seductress.”  The Seductress in our society is all movie star glamour and modelesque perfection.  A ridiculous “standard” to live up to.  And we don’t have to.  We are unique, gorgeous and fabulous—The Seductress magic is in us. All we have to do is find the magic within us and display it to the world. KNOW that the creative magic buried within us: our singing, writing, cooking, financial brain or wit brings the world pleasure. In these blog pages I will share “Old” Seductresses with you. I’ll share the smart, sassy and artistic ones too. We start with someone “society” would never call a Seductress. Boy were they wrong! Her name? Pauline Viardot.

Pauline Viardot was an opera singer who was born in 1821. She had extraordinary gifts as a singer and had it all: A long happy life, domestic and professional success and was adored by some of the most distinguished men of her time. When Ivan Turgenev, a twenty five year old aristocratic Lothario heard her sing, he abandoned Russian and followed her around the world for the rest of his life. Not one snitch of “commercialization” “other point of view” or “how can I make her look more American Idol,” in an ounce of her performance. And the world is fascinated. Charmed. Adoring of her. And “The World” is already trying to change her. Mold her. Take away the fascination of pure Susan. Have you seen the recent pictures, ladies? 2. Males can’t push the “emotional” button in her.
Yup. Men know we are emotional and use it against us all the time. Time to stop that little game, pronto. Remember my “friend” who gave me the Pamprin when I was having a bad day? He pushed my emotional buttons perfectly and he knew what he was doing. Today…no way! I would have calmly said something along these lines: “The thoughtfulness behind this gesture is perfect because of the gentleman you’ve shown me to be today.”

When you get angry, it’s important to “release” the Angry Bitch first. Here’s a perfect example. I was at a boot camp workout with punching bags. The trainer was at the bag next to mine. She was pushing the girl next to me to use her anger to work out harder. At first the girl was screaming incoherently. Then she started saying clear as a bell: “You never ask me how my day was! Punch punch kick punch! I turned to her and said, “How was your day, honey?” Laughter. Let’s review:

1. She released her anger in the workout…the first stage was incoherent.
2. As she released her anger the truth clearly came out. She wanted her husband to ask how her day was.
3. Laughter. We were able to “play” with that anger.

Assignment: Find a constructive way to ‘release” Angry Bitch so you can identify the truth and deal with it in a constructive way. Extra points if you can laugh at the drama involved! Some ideas:

1. Find a punching bag. Get physical to punch and kick away your anger.
2. Find an appropriate “angry” song and dance your cute butt off (Joan Jett and Pink have a lot of good ones)
3. Get a timer. Set it for 10 minutes and vent. Pick a subject that pisses you off. Do it alone or call a friend. Stop at 10 minutes. Do this daily until you’ve gotten rid of all Angry Bitch.
4. Scream…pound the ground, anything to get it out.

It might be a bunch of things pissing you off. This takes time. After you’ve done your “Release the Angry Bitch” assignment do something good for yourself. Bitch Rule #6:  We are grateful and appreciate what we have everyday.  Our families, friends, men, careers, children, pets, plants and our luscious bodies.  (There is so much to appreciate!  Thank you Universe!!)

Bitch Rule #7:  We revel in our power to attract as women.  We are attractors.   Magnets.

Bitch Rule #8:  We understand that a lot of men don’t understand what we want.   The sexes communicate in such different ways.   Here we will learn how to communicate in a way to make them understand what we want.  We will do so in a loving and patient way.
